AFRICAN LITERACY DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (ALDI)

By Prince-Solomon Okorie

Our Mission: To promote reading culture and improve literacy in African schools.

Our Vision: To standardize education and make Africa a literate continent.

Introduction: African Literacy Development Initiative (ALDI) is a non-governmental organization founded to promote and inculcate a reading and writing culture across African schools. In order to improve the literacy level and strengthen the decaying educational system on the continent.

Promoting a reading culture is an essential initiative for improving literacy standards and critical thinking ability among students. Incessant reading is crucial for; academic success, personal development, and career opportunities. Hence, many schools in Africa lack the orientation, resources, and support base to nurture a reading and writing culture among students.

We have understudied the African continental educational system since the inception of ALDI and noticed some remarkable improvements made in the past.

But in recent times, we have also noticed reader’s apathy and sudden decline in educational activities and the inability of average African students to defend their course after graduation, a situation that invalidates the certificate they obtain after years of onerous study, thereby categorizing Africa as educationally backward continent.

This has propelled us to design a study guide book conceptualized to consolidate the quest for innovate and standardize education in Africa. in order to compete with the global standard of education.

This organization, through its educational reform program titled “Promoting Reading and Writing Culture in Africa” with subtitles Practical Guide to Memory Improvement and How to Improve Your Performance at School.”

This timely study guide book keenly addresses the challenges militating against readers’ apathy, which is the bane of poor performances in African schools.

To address these challenges, we have initiated this illiteracy eradication project to “Promote Reading and Writing Culture in African Schools.”

This study guide book is designed to promote and inculcate a reading culture in secondary and tertiary institutions in African schools. And to improve student’s competence, enhance their performance at schools and equip them for global success.

If students apply the principles which the Author outlined in this book, reading will become their intentional habit and knowledge will grow into understanding.

The book is intended to be distributed free of charge to secondary and tertiary institutions across the continent of Africa. And we believe that if this book is well circulated across African schools, it will inevitably prepare the students for academic excellence, which is the bedrock of education. Since today’s readers are leaders of tomorrow.

This project will make meaningful impacts on the educational landscape in Africa, as often reported by affiliate media outlets across the globe.

Our Scheme of Activities:
To reach out to more schools and more students across Africa, providing them with learning tools, donating copies of study-guide books to students and to school libraries, organizing seminars on the importance of reading to improve literacy, setting up reading and writing competition clubs, and providing reading incentives in the African schools. These will make reading an exciting habit.

Promoting reading Culture means revolutionizing education and improving literacy in Africa, this is a true demonstration of our commitment to corporate social responsibilities.

Promoting a reading culture in the African school system is a vital endeavour and a lifetime investment that requires organizations such as UNESCO, corporate bodies, Captains of industries, and government’s support and partnership.
