Land Fraud: Maxwell Okpara & Yesufu Clan Slam EFCC as Public Sympathy Shifts Toward Godwin-Isaac

By Prince-Solomon Okorie

“Land Fraud Showdown: Maxwell Okpara & the Yesufu Clan Slam EFCC as Public Sympathy Shifts Toward Dr Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac.”

ABUJA, July 19, 2025 A seismic shift is unfolding in Nigeria’s land fraud saga: civil society agitator Maxwell Chibuike Okpara, 79-year-old Colleen Mero Yesufu, and the Yesufu family have launched a smear crusade that is unraveling under the weight of facts. Once presented as defenders of justice, they are now under fire for manipulating public institutions, deploying emotion in place of evidence, and undermining the legal process for personal gain.

Legal experts and concerned Nigerians are questioning whether Okpara was hired by the Yesufu family specifically to conduct unethical public campaigns on their behalf. Despite holding no legal brief in either the criminal or civil proceedings, Okpara has positioned himself as a spokesperson for the family. He has given press conferences calling for enforcement of a forfeiture order — a forfeiture that had already been dismissed by the courts and withdrawn by the EFCC. For a lawyer of his standing to either be unaware of this or to knowingly mislead the public raises serious professional concerns.

Observers now ask: What is Maxwell Okpara’s real interest in this matter? He is not a lawyer on record. He has no place in either proceeding. Yet he has aggressively inserted himself into an ongoing legal dispute — disregarding due process, court rulings, and ethical boundaries. Many in the legal community are stunned that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has not sanctioned him. His repeated public outbursts, defamatory remarks about law enforcement, and misuse of civil society platforms suggest a pattern of conduct that risks embarrassing the entire legal profession.

Some have gone further, calling him a legal tout and political scoundrel — hired to “undo” a case that is already before the courts. If Okpara truly believes in the rule of law, then he should submit to it, not defy it in public squares. His conduct begs the question: Why has he not been arrested by the Nigerian police for openly defaming the Inspector General and fabricating claims? Civil society groups are free to advocate for transparency, but they must present facts — not fiction — and not act as mercenaries for private interests.

Civic Group Demands Justice — Or Else
At a thunderous press briefing Thursday, Okpara—frontman for INAHURAT—accused the EFCC and Nigerian police of deliberately stalling enforcement of a Federal High Court interim forfeiture order for Guzape Plot 4022 and Katampe Plots 1861–63, originally tied to 79-year-old widow Colleen Mero Yesufu. These allegations are contained in a Daily Post exposé that has rocked institutional trust.
(TheNigeriaLawyer, Daily Post Nigeria)
Meanwhile, civil liberty watchdogs observe that Maxwell Okpara and the Yesufu clan could be using political muscle, not evidence, to pressure enforcement agencies. Their relentless accusations—launched precisely when the courts have become inconvenient—raise more questions than answers.

The Tide Turns in Public Opinion
Nigeria’s silent majority is now tuning in to the argument of power over principle. As observers quietly ask: If Okpara and the Yesufu family were so confident in their claims, why are they now crying foul when the EFCC stalls enforcement?—onlookers see a pattern suggesting they want results, fast, regardless of facts.

Meanwhile, Dr Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac and her husband Isaac Yusuf stand firmly on documented transactions: verified payments, registered titles, and full cooperation with the ICPC, FCTA, EFCC, and police. Yet, their company Homadil Realty was hit hardest—projects frozen, reputations tarnished, and media trials launched on allegations now under scrutiny.
(Premium Times Nigeria)

Civil‐Liberty Groups Challenge EFCC Motives
Independent rights monitors are now questioning whether the EFCC bowed to public pressure or was manoeuvred by political narratives. CHRICED, another respected watchdog, has publicly expressed alarm over “police complicity” in shielding suspect parties and the EFCC’s refusal to act on court-ordered forfeiture — a forfeiture which, notably, has already been dismissed by the court and withdrawn by the EFCC, raising even more questions about the accuracy of their ongoing advocacy.
(CHRICED)
In a headline moment, one prominent civic leader told reporters, “The true victim in this case may be the rule of law itself.” Critics argue that the EFCC faces a critical test: enforce the law impartially, or risk becoming a vessel for manipulation.

From Victim to Victor:
For Ambassador Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, her husband Engineer Isaac Ishaku Yusuf, and Homadil Realty Limited, this delay in the EFCC’s case isn’t just procedural — it’s vindication. Having pledged full transparency, submitted to questioning, and honoured every court order, they’ve stood as pillars of honesty. The moment Maxwell Okpara’s INAHURAT and the Yesufu family began demanding action, the minute justice seemed inconvenient, public trust cracked.

What’s Next?
The spotlight now turns to the judiciary and anti-graft bodies. The public must now ask: Why is the EFCC being pressured to enforce a forfeiture order that has already been dismissed by the court and withdrawn by the Commission itself? Will the police, who have been accused of complicity, be swayed by political pressure rather than guided by the facts and legal rulings? And will Maxwell Okpara, Colleen Mero, and kin answer hard questions about the timing and basis of their campaign?
One thing is clear: public sympathy is turning sharply toward Ambassador Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, her husband Engineer Isaac Ishaku Yusuf,Homadil Realty Limited, seen now as the wrongfully accused who followed the law.

Bottom Line
•Maxwell Okpara and the Yesufu family appear to be weaponizing emotion and influence, not judicial proof.
•Their camp’s sudden pivot from aggressive accusations to calling out the EFCC signals alarm—not integrity.
•Meanwhile, Ambassador Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, her husband Engineer Isaac Ishaku Yusuf, and their company Homadil Realty Limited, once under siege, are now poised to emerge vindicated, their case strengthened by patience and process.
The real question now: Will Nigeria’s legal guardians uphold the law or be swayed by political drama?

Solidarity Visit by a Seven-Man Delegation of the UNIEC Worldwide National Advisory Council to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Abuja.

A RENEWED APPEAL FOR UNCONDITIONAL AND IMMEDIATE RELEASE AND REHABILITATION OF MAZI NNAMDI KANU AND HIS COMRADES

Various non Igbos and Igbo leaders, including Chief Edwin Clark and Chief Ayo Adebanjo made similar call for the release of Mazi Kanu , but were ignored and incidentally the two men like Mbazulike Amaechi, Chukwuemeka Ezeife , George Obiozo who also made the call as Ohanaze President General, all are now demised. Other igbo leaders such as Maj Gen Collins R.U Ihekire rtd and Chief Dan Ulasi also added their voices for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu alongside organizations, both local and international, including the UNIEC Worldwide had made serious appeals to Nigerian authorities to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in involuntary detention against any known law. By this visit to Abuja the UNIEC Worldwide is reiterating its demand for the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his inappropriately detained colleagues.

Over four years have passed since the extraordinary and unlawful rendition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya – an act executed without the official consent of the Kenyan government. That blatant breach of international law, and of the legal frameworks of both Kenya and Nigeria, continue to draw widespread global condemnations.
Nevertheless, despite multiple Nigerian court orders mandating his release and awarding damages in his favour, alongside a decisive Kenyan ruling denouncing his detention, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains incarcerated. His continued detention undermines the rule of law and endangers peace, security, and economic stability in Nigeria’s Eastern areas in particular and maybe even beyond.

In line with this commitment, the United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide _headed_ by its Director-General, His Lordship, Justice Alpha Ikpeama, _led_ a high-level seven-man delegation to visit Mazi Kanu in Abuja on July 18, 2025. This visit was ratified during the UNIEC Worldwide Plenary Session held on July 5th, 2025, at Enugu, further affirming the Council’s unwavering dedication to justice and human rights.

Ebonyi Obedients Movement Fetes Obi at 64, Warns Coalition Against Selling Ticket to Highest Bidder

By Prince-Solomon Okorie

As the Ebonyi State Obedients Movement celebrates Peter Obi’s birthday at 64 years, the group has warned members of the new coalition, African Democratic Congress (ADC), against selling its presidential ticket to the highest bidder.

This came after a celebration of mass at the pastoral centre in Abakaliki, the state capital, to round up a series of activities marking Peter Obi’s birthday, which commenced over the week.

Comrade Splendour Eze Oko, who’s the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party at the 2023 general election, described Obi as someone who is worthy of leadership in the highest office in the country to bring about positive change and development to the poor masses.

He cautioned the governor of Edo state over his recent comments on Obi that have gained reactions across the country, saying that the Obedient movement would hold him responsible if anything happens to the security of Mr. Obi, and called on Nigerians to rise up to defend democracy.

“We are making a statement today. To those of them who are threatening Mr. Peter Obi for entering their state—I’m talking about Edo State at the moment—I’m sending a warning to the governor of Edo State that we are not joking when we say that following Peter Obi, we give our lives to it. If anything happens to Peter Obi, we’ll hold him responsible.

“I want to warn that the coalition should not impose a candidate on the people. We are looking at the coalition as a means of liberating the poor Nigerians; therefore, they should not look at the ticket as made for the highest bidder. They should consider the most qualified, and I think the most qualified is Peter Obi,” he added.

Chief Eze Emmanuel Eze, a member of the National Advisory Committee of the movement, recalled that it was a week-long activity that ended on a high note, saying that within the week, members had visited vulnerable places such as hospitals, leprosy homes, and motherless babies homes to celebrate Obi’s birthday with the less privileged persons.

“It is also instructive to know that what is happening here in Ebonyi State is happening all over the country and all over the world, wherever you see Nigerians, because we believe that Peter Obi, who is an institution of hope, represents the hope of a common man.

“Despite how bad things are, we believe that Peter Obi’s presidency is what we need at this time. This country requires someone like Peter Obi to deliver us from the darkness, corruption, incompetence, and mismanagement of Nigeria’s economy.

“We are celebrating him because he embodies the vision of character, competence, capacity, and compassion, and that is what Nigeria needs now.” Eze said.

He described Mr. Obi as the rejuvenation of hope in a hopeless situation, referencing the current economic hardship being faced by the common poor people across the country at the moment, and called on the Nigerian masses to embrace the new hope that Mr. Obi represents.

Members of the movement who spoke with our correspondent included R.t  Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Nwobo, who was the former assistant director of Peter Obi’s campaign organisation at the 2023 general election; Mr. Igiri Innocent, a chieftain of the Labour Party; and Barr. Adum Solomon. All maintained that Obi’s presidency in 2027 is feasible against all odds.

“There’s no coalition without the Obedients; minus the Obedients from the coalition, then it’s as empty as an empty drum. Peter Obi is the leader of the coalition, and we don’t have any idea of hijacking anything. Our goal is to be at the centre of it, and if Peter Obi is not accommodated, then that is the end of the coalition.” Igiri added.

We Cannot Abandon One of Our Own -Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide tells Fed Govt

By Prince-Solomon Okorie

Solidarity Visit by a Seven-Man Delegation of the UNIEC National Advisory Council to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Abuja

It has been over four years since the extraordinary and unlawful rendition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya—an action carried out without the consent of the Kenyan government. This brazen violation of international law, and the legal systems of both Kenya and Nigeria, has continued to attract global condemnation.

Despite several binding court orders in Nigeria mandating his release and awarding him damages—as well as a definitive ruling from the Kenyan judiciary denouncing his arrest and rendition—Mazi Kanu remains in custody. His prolonged detention undermines the rule of law and poses significant threats to peace, security, and economic stability in Nigeria’s South East region.

The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC), as a non-partisan body with a core mandate in advisory and dispute resolution, strongly calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honour the sustained appeals from respected Igbo elder statesmen and key stakeholders—both departed and living. The late High Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, High Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, and H.E. Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo), all championed Mazi Kanu’s release until their final days. Today, voices such as Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and H.E. Mr. Peter Obi continue to echo that call. These leaders recognize that Mazi Kanu does not stand alone in his agitation against marginalization of Igbo nation—the majority cannot be wrong.

In line with its commitment to justice, the United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC), led by its Director-General, His Lordship Justice Alpha Ikpeama, dispatched a high-powered seven-man delegation that appear in the Federal High Court Abuja and also visited Mazi Kanu in the DSS custudy today July 18, 2025. to further facilitate the release of the detained IPOB leader in order to reinforce the Council’s unwavering stance on justice and human rights. Though the case was adjourned to October 10th 2025.

Delegation Members Included:

His Lordship Justice Alpha Ikpeama, Director General, United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide.

His Excellency, Maj. Gen. Collins Ru Ihekire (Rtd.), OMC (Rwanda) – Member, Board of Trustees

Professor Nick Eze – National Chairman, Police Affairs

Eze Fyneface Amechi – Ozuzu Ancient Kingdom, Rivers State; National Vice President

Professor Obasi Igwe – Director, Media and Publicity

Colonel Chief Alban Chike Obi (Rtd.), Dike Eji Ejemba – South East Chairman, Security Affairs

Prophetess Lolo Louisa O. Okeke – National Patroness

Mr. Ike Nwabueze, UNIEC Representative, FTC Abuja.

The group made passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Federal Government, they said, “we can not abandon one of our own, Kanu is our illustrious son, to continue to detain him is to continue encourage lawlessness, disrespect to rule of law and insecurities in the South East.”

UNIEC hereby makes a fervent appeal to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to facilitate the immediate and unconditional release, rehabilitation, and compensation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

UNIEC Delegates at the. Federal High Court, Abuja.

We are convinced that such a timely and compassionate intervention will stand as a historic legacy—greater than any infrastructure or political appointment. It will resound through generations, like the kola nut, appreciated only by those who understand its worth.

Should Mazi Kanu be granted bail, UNIEC is fully prepared and willing to stand as surety—whatever the cost.” they affirmed.

UNIEC also calls upon all Igbo socio-cultural groups, traditional rulers, clergy, town union leaders, and community stakeholders to unite in this righteous cause. As we consistentl affirm:

An injustice to one Igbo man is an injustice to the entire Igbo nation.”

Okeaku Festival: A Symbol Of Unity, The Same People Who Fought Against Gov. Nwifuru Are The Same People Who Prayed For His Continuity

By Prince-Solomon Okorie

The ancestral home of the Ezza Nation, Okpoku Ezekuna, reverberated with joy as the Ezza clan gathered to celebrate the New Yam festival.

It was a significant cultural event that showcased the clan’s rich heritage and traditions. The festival, which is an integral part of the community’s identity, brought together people from all walks of life to celebrate the harvest season and the importance of yam farming in the area.

The festival featured a range of cultural displays and performances, including traditional dances, music, and art. The event was marked by a sense of community and togetherness, with people coming together to celebrate their shared heritage and traditions.

The New Yam Festival also highlighted the economic and social benefits of the event. It promoted social cohesion and community bonding among the people of Ezza.

During the festival, community leaders and stakeholders emphasised the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of Ezza.

They called for innovation in order to document and promote the festival, as well as to pass down the cultural knowledge and traditions associated with it to younger generations.

They emphasized the importance of culture in shaping the identity and values of the people

Gov. Nwifuru felicitated with the Ezza people during their Okeaku-new yam festival; he expressed gratitude for peace, which he said has returned and is now permanent in the Ezza nation, and called on other communities that are still making trouble to learn from the Ezza people. He described culture as a symbol of peace and unity. He urged the Ezza people to support his second-term bid, so when it’s their turn to produce a governor, he will reciprocate.

Sen. Ken Eze said that the Okeaku Ezza Festival is a celebration of unity, peace, and the existence of the Ezza people. He also praised the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for promoting peace and unity in the state.

Hon. Ogodo Ani Nome, the Ezza North local government chairman, highlighted the significance of culture in shaping the values and behaviour of individuals. He gave assurance that peace has come to stay with the Ezza and Izzi people. “You may have observed that the same people who fought against Gov. Nwifuru are the same people who prayed for his continuity,” he added.

Hon. Nwakaego Jecinta Nworie, Board Member, Ebonyi State Fertiliser and Chemical Company, and also the Coordinator of the Owa Eferekpe Foundation, Ezza North Branch, today attended the Okeaku New Festival, which is our cultural heritage and way of life. The governor did not discriminate but honoured us with his presence at the event. That was a display of love for people’s culture and traditions, and I want to assure him that we will reciprocate his love by supporting his government and, most importantly, give our unalloyed support through our votes come 2027.

Ebonyi: FMR. COMMISSIONER, ASSESSMENT ON THE PAST, PRESENT GOVT OF EBONYI STATE

By Maxwell Okechukwu
Abakaliki- Guidepost News International

Dr. John Otu, the  former Commissioner of Information and state Orientation during the Administration of Dr. Sam Omiyi Egwu the first civilian Governor of Ebonyi State.

In a recent interview with Newsmen in his  resident at  Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State Capital, shared his thoughts on the accessibility and opinions on both the old and new governments of Ebonyi state. As a key figure in the administration of Dr. Sam Egwu, the first executive governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Otu reflected on the challenges facing the state as newly created in 1996
When Dr. Sam Egwu took office

He made it known that the State was faced with numerous challenges, including illiteracy and underdevelopment. The state was often referred to as the “Siberia of Nigeria,” a metaphor for a place where rejects were kept. However, under Dr. Egwu’s leadership, the state began to experience significant development, with a focus on human capital, infrastructure, and spiritual growth.

Dr.Otu also highlighted the importance of investing in human capital, which was the major priority to  Dr. Egwu during his administration.
Meanwhile the government empowered many Ebonyians   academically, intellectually, and otherwise, laying a solid foundation on the state’s development. According to Dr. John.Otu “Ebonyi people were lucky to have His Excellency Dr. Sam Egwu as the first governor of Ebonyi State, as he laid the solid foundation in the state.”

Coming to the present  government under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Dr.Otu highlighted his good recommendation for the governor’s policy direction and his focuing on human capital development. He noted that Governor Nwifuru has followed the legacy left by past governments, particularly in the area of education, where he has provided scholarships both locally and overseas. Hon. Otu also commended the governor’s efforts in reorganizing the civil service, promoting industrialization, and improving healthcare.

And offered some advice to the government, emphasizing on the importance of taking the people closer to God and maximizing the state’s potentials in areas of strength, such as agriculture. He also urged the government to be more open and not view opponents as enemies, but rather as alternative leaders.

As Ebonyi State continues to progress and develop, Dr Otu’s insights provide a valuable perspective on the state’s journey. With a strong foundation laid by the past governments and the present administration who has also  focused on human development and progress, the state is poised for a brighter future, Otu noted, “Credit must be given to Nwifuru because first he got his policy right, even before his Administration, he has focus and ideas on what he is going to do.”
