Francis Nwifuru has continued to shape the political landscape in Ebonyi through a performance-driven approach to governance and political loyalty ahead of the 2027 elections.
Recent developments indicate that the governor is prioritizing performance, discipline, and alignment with his administration’s agenda as key criteria for political support—especially for lawmakers seeking re-election.
In a strategic move to consolidate party power ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Governor of Ebonyi State and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Francis Nwifuru, has officially endorsed several incumbent federal lawmakers for return tickets.
The Governor announced the decisions during a high-level consultative tour across the three senatorial districts, aimed at harmonizing the party’s position before the upcoming primaries.
While some heavyweights secured their path to a second term, Nwifuru notably hit the “pause” button on several constituencies currently embroiled in internal friction and stiff competition.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized that his endorsements were rooted in the principle of continuity and the absence of internal opposition.
Ebonyi North: Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi received a unanimous nod.
The Governor noted that the lack of dissenting voices made the ratification a “consensus” decision to ensure effective representation.
Ebonyi Central: Senator Kenneth Eze was cleared for a second-term bid, alongside veteran lawmaker Hon. Chinedu Ogah (Ikwo/Ezza South), who is now set for a third term. Hon. Joseph Nwobashi (Ezza North/Ishielu) also secured an endorsement for a second term.
“The party will support their return in the interest of continuity,” Nwifuru stated, citing extensive consultations meant to keep the APC structure robust.
The Governor was careful not to inflame existing tensions in districts where “competing interests” have created a political stalemate.
In these areas, deliberations have been “stepped down” to allow for broader consensus-building.
The most watched battleground remains Ebonyi South Senatorial District.
While incumbent Senator Prof. Anthony Ani seeks a return, he faces a public challenge from Austin Umahi, brother to the Minister of Works, David Umahi. With the younger Umahi openly criticizing Ani’s performance, Nwifuru has opted for further dialogue before making a final call.
Decisions were also deferred in the following areas:
Abakaliki/Izzi & Ebonyi/Ohaukwu: Reps Emmanuel Uguru and Eze Nwachukwu must wait until Friday for further deliberations.
Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo: Incumbent Hon. Kama Nkemkanma faces “strong opposition,” leading the Governor to withhold an immediate endorsement.
Afikpo/Edda: The seat currently held by Hon. Iduma Igariwey is under heavy contention, with figures like Barrister Eni Iduma Chima entering the fray.
The ripples of the Governor’s tour extended to the 24 state constituencies. While some lawmakers were cleared to fly the party’s flag again, many others remain in limbo as the party grapples with emerging contestations.
Political analysts view Nwifuru’s approach as a “balancing act.” By rewarding loyalists and high-performers with early endorsements while allowing room for negotiation in volatile zones, the Governor is attempting to prevent a pre-primary implosion.
The consultations, which took place at landmarks like the APC State Secretariat and the Christian Ecumenical Centre, signal that while the Governor holds the reins, the APC in Ebonyi is still navigating the delicate dance of internal democracy.

A Historic Unveiling of the Igbo Book of Records
ENUGU, Nigeria — Excitement is building across Nigeria and the global Igbo diaspora as preparations intensify for the Great Igbo Achievers’ Legacy Day and the unveiling of the Igbo Book of Records, a landmark initiative designed to document, recognise, and preserve Igbo excellence worldwide.
The Central Organising Committee of the Great Igbo Achievers Initiative, also known as the Igbo Initiative, has unveiled a comprehensive international framework positioning the project as a global cultural and intellectual recognition platform for the achievements of Igbo people across generations and continents.

A GLOBAL SHIFT: FROM CELEBRATION TO LEGACY PRESERVATION
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Committee described the Initiative as a strategic evolution in the cultural architecture of Ndi Igbo—transitioning from episodic celebrations to structured legacy preservation and institutional recognition.
The Initiative is conceived as a permanent global framework dedicated to the systematic documentation, validation, and preservation of Igbo excellence.
> “While global Igbo Day festivals celebrate our culture, the Igbo Book of Records institutionalises our legacy,” the statement noted.
Designed to complement diaspora-led Igbo Day festivals, the Initiative ensures that achievements are not only celebrated but formally recorded and preserved for posterity.
THE IGBO BOOK OF RECORDS
At the heart of the Initiative is the Igbo Book of Records—a definitive compendium documenting the lives and accomplishments of outstanding Igbo personalities across the world.
The Book serves as a global reference archive, a scholarly and cultural resource, and a repository of identity and achievement for future generations.
Each profile will include full name and title, state of origin, brief biography, major roles, notable achievements, and legacy impact, ensuring a standardised and credible documentation format.
Selection is strictly merit-based, guided by verifiable accomplishments, measurable impact, and enduring community value.

GLOBAL FRAMEWORK AND DIASPORA INTEGRATION
Organisers identified a key gap—the absence of a centralised system for documenting Igbo achievements globally.
The Initiative addresses this through a unified framework built on documentation, recognition, and intellectual validation, conceptually aligned with global systems of excellence.
Diaspora Igbo Day events in major global cities will function as nomination and validation hubs, recognition platforms, and regional endorsing partners.
The annual Legacy Day at Enugu Smart City will serve as the global convergence point for honourees and stakeholders from across continents.

INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE
To ensure credibility, transparency, and global acceptance, the Initiative will operate a multi-layered structure including a Global Advisory Council, Regional Coordinators, and an Academic and Documentation Board responsible for research validation and archival standards.
This structure aligns with international best practices for institutional recognition systems and governance frameworks.
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Nominations are now open for Distinguished Igbo Personalities.
Individuals, institutions, and stakeholders are invited to nominate candidates who represent excellence, leadership, and service in Igbo society.
Submissions must include verifiable evidence of achievements and measurable impact.
Submission Channels:
WhatsApp: +234 816 460 0000

GLOBAL VISIBILITY STRATEGY
The Initiative will introduce global visibility platforms including the Top 100 Igbo Global Influencers, Diaspora Impact Awards, and regional spotlight editions highlighting achievements across different continents.
It is anchored on the philosophy:
> “Think Global, Document Home.”
A MOVEMENT, NOT JUST AN EVENT
The Legacy Day represents a broader movement to rekindle unity, excellence, and visionary leadership among Ndi Igbo worldwide.
> “This marks a transition from celebration to documentation—from presence to permanence,” the Committee affirmed.

Abuja, Nigeria — The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide has announced the formal codification of its Ambassadorial, Mayoral, and Patronal dignities, a move aimed at strengthening its global engagement and grassroots coordination.
The development marks a major step in the Council’s institutional growth, introducing a structured system to enhance international representation while preserving the traditional authority of Igbo Eldership across its expanding global network.

According to UNIEC, the newly adopted framework is built on a three-tier leadership system comprising Ambassadors, Mayoral Dignitaries, and Patrons. Each category is designed to play a distinct role in advancing the Council’s mission.
Under the ambassadorial cadre, five ranks have been established: Grand Ambassador, Eminent Ambassador, Senior Ambassador, Ambassador-at-Large, and Ambassador. These positions are expected to drive cultural diplomacy, foster international partnerships, and promote Igbo values on the global stage.
The mayoral structure, which focuses on grassroots coordination, includes Grand Mayor, Eminent Mayor, City Mayor, Regional or State Mayor, and Community Mayor. The Council said this hierarchy will improve local mobilization and ensure effective implementation of its programmes across communities, states, and diaspora networks.

At the core of the framework is the Patronal Order, reinforcing the traditional institution of Igbo Eldership. The ranks—National Great Grand Patron, National Eminent Grand Patron, National Grand Patron, National Life Patron, and National Patron—are designed to uphold moral authority, cultural heritage, and ceremonial leadership within the Council.
UNIEC stated that all official activities will now follow clearly defined protocols of precedence to ensure order, respect, and institutional discipline. While ambassadorial ranks will guide diplomatic engagements, mayoral dignitaries will oversee territorial coordination, and patrons will provide moral and ceremonial oversight.

Appointments into these roles will be formalized through investiture ceremonies, where appointees will receive certificates, insignia, and charters outlining their responsibilities. Each appointee will also take an Oath of Honour, pledging commitment to integrity, service, and the promotion of Igbo heritage.
The Council noted that the codification is expected to deepen diaspora engagement, strengthen programme coordination, and enhance its credibility as a globally recognized institution.
Describing the initiative as a blend of tradition and modern governance, UNIEC said the framework positions the Council as a leading platform for cultural diplomacy, community development, and institutional leadership.
Observers say the move signals a transformation towards a more structured and responsive organization, aligning global influence with grassroots participation and ancestral wisdom.

UNIEC reaffirmed its commitment to unity, justice, and sustainable development, noting that the new structure reflects a forward-looking vision grounded in discipline, tradition, and collective responsibility.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, has revealed that several opposition political parties have approached him seeking to endorse Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for a second term in the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election.
Emegha shared this information during a meeting at the APC state party office in Abakaliki, where he noted that multiple opposition party chairmen had expressed an interest in supporting the incumbent governor’s re-election campaign.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to party constitutions and legal frameworks for any endorsements, stating, “If there is any provision in their constitution that allows such action, it would be acceptable.”
Additionally, Emegha mentioned that many individuals have already purchased nomination forms for Governor Nwifuru’s candidacy, but the governor has instructed him to refund the payments, a request Emegha has hesitated to fulfill due to potential complications.
This development indicates early political alignments and increasing support for Governor Nwifuru as preparations for the 2027 gubernatorial race begin to take shape.

Youth empowerment remains the cornerstone of Gov. Nwifuru’s crime prevention strategy
Hon. Prince Victor Nwenyi, Ebonyi State Commander of the Neighborhood and Security Watch, has attributed the notable decline in criminal activities across the state to the deliberate policy of youth inclusiveness and empowerment championed by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Speaking on the security gains recorded under the current administration, Prince Nwenyi noted that the Governor’s People’s Charter of Needs has significantly reduced the appeal of crime among youths by providing viable alternatives through purposeful governance and access to quality education.

Youth Empowerment as a Security Strategy
According to the Commander, Governor Nwifuru’s approach goes beyond conventional policing. By appointing young people into strategic positions and sponsoring thousands of Ebonyians for prestigious overseas scholarships, the administration has productively engaged the energy of the youth population and redirected it toward nation-building.
“Youth empowerment remains the cornerstone of Gov. Nwifuru’s crime prevention strategy. Through inclusive governance and access to world-class education, the administration has effectively reduced the lure of criminality,” Nwenyi stated.
Major Breakthroughs:
The governor has graciously the security agencies in the state with all the needed security apparatus including patrol vehicles.
Tackling Human Trafficking and Armed Robbery
Highlighting recent operational successes achieved in collaboration with conventional security agencies, Prince Nwenyi disclosed several key interventions:
Anti-Human Trafficking: Acting on credible intelligence, operatives intercepted a bus conveying 15 underage children—mostly girls—who were being trafficked. The victims were rescued and reunited with their families, while suspects were handed over to the police for prosecution.
Dismantling Robbery Syndicates: A notorious gang operating in Okpoto, known for stealing motorcycles and tricycles, was successfully dismantled, leading to the recovery of 15 motorcycles.
Bank Customer Protection: Security operatives apprehended a criminal group that deployed “spike tactics”—placing sharp objects behind vehicle tires to deflate them before robbing unsuspecting bank customers.
Strengthening the Grassroots Security Framework
Prince Nwenyi emphasized that the state’s security architecture now extends across all 13 Local Government Areas, reinforced by strong collaboration with community vigilante groups who serve as the “eyes and ears” at the grassroots level.
He further revealed that intensified surveillance on watch-listed individuals has forced many suspected criminals to flee. The Commander also cautioned residents against the use of fireworks (knockouts), noting that criminal elements often exploit such sounds to test community alertness before launching attacks.
The Annual Youth Summit: Countering ‘Sit-at-Home’ Orders
To sustain peace and social stability, the state government organizes an annual Youth Summit focused on sensitizing young people about the dangers of drug abuse, human trafficking, and other criminal activities. Nwenyi noted that this initiative has played a pivotal role in discouraging compliance with ‘sit-at-home’ orders previously imposed by non-state actors.
Call for Continuity
In his concluding remarks, Prince Nwenyi commended the breadth of Governor Nwifuru’s achievements, stressing that significant progress is being recorded across all sectors, from security to infrastructure.
“The reward for good work is more work. I urge Ebonyians to continue supporting the Governor’s vision and leadership to sustain and consolidate these developmental strides,” he added.

UNITED IGBO ELDERS COUNCIL (UNIEC) WORLDWIDE
Custodians of Heritage | Voices of Conscience | Advocates of Justice and Unity
OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION OF THE ELDERS
A CALL TO AWAKEN THE MIND AS 2027 APPROACHES
Classification: Public Advisory / National Civic Guidance

PREAMBLE
We, the United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide, speaking with the collective authority of elder statesmanship, traditional wisdom, and moral responsibility, hereby issue this Proclamation in the interest of national consciousness, civic responsibility, and the preservation of democratic integrity within the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
This Proclamation is issued not as mere commentary, but as a solemn advisory rooted in ancestral wisdom and a deep commitment to justice, unity, and national progress.

THE PROCLAMATION
There exists within our society a subtle but dangerous condition—silent in its advance, yet profound in its consequences.
This condition is mindlessness—the quiet surrender of thought.
Mindlessness begins when a people cease to question, accept without reflection, and abandon reason for convenience. It is not the absence of intellect, but the refusal to apply it.
Our forebears warned:
“Onye ajụjụ adịghị efu ụzọ.”
He who asks questions does not lose his way.
Yet today, inquiry is diminishing, and uncritical acceptance is rising.
A people who do not interrogate their reality cannot transform it.
OBSERVATIONS
We observe with concern that:
Corruption is increasingly normalized and sometimes celebrated;
Public accountability is weakened by indifference and fatigue;
Electoral processes are undermined by inducements rooted in poverty and fear;
Civic participation is declining into passive observation;
Endurance has replaced the rightful demand for reform.
As the elders remind us:
“Onye amaghi ebe mmiri bidoro maba ya, agaghị ama ebe ọ ga-akwụsị.”
He who does not know where the rain began to beat him cannot know where it will end.

DECLARATION
Accordingly, we solemnly declare:
That mindlessness is a threat to national development;
That a disengaged citizenry weakens democratic institutions;
That silence in the face of injustice sustains injustice;
That a nation’s strength lies in the awareness and participation of its people.
For indeed:
“Igwe bụ ike.”
The people are strength.
DIRECTIVE TO THE CITIZENS
In view of the forthcoming 2027 general elections, we call upon all citizens to:
1. Awaken their civic consciousness and embrace informed participation;
2. Ask critical questions and demand accountability;
3. Reject inducements that compromise their votes;
4. Uphold truth and national interest above personal gain;
5. Engage actively as stakeholders in the nation’s destiny.
We remind all:
“Agwọ anaghị agwọ onwe ya.”
A snake does not heal itself.
A nation does not correct itself without deliberate action.

FINAL CHARGE
Let it be known:
A nation declines when its people abandon thought,
but it rises when its people awaken.
We charge every citizen to reject complacency, resist manipulation, and embrace responsibility.
Let unity prevail:
> “Aka nri kwoo aka ekpe, aka ekpe akwoo aka nri.”
When the right hand washes the left, and the left washes the right, both become clean.
Let wisdom guide our choices.
Let courage define our actions.
Let justice anchor our decisions.
CONCLUSION
This Proclamation is issued in good faith and with unwavering commitment to the peace, unity, and progress of Nigeria.
May posterity judge us not by what we endured, but by what we chose to correct.
FORMAL ENDORSEMENT
Issued in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the spirit of cooperation and shared national responsibility.

Abuja, Nigeria – Wednesday
The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide has observed with keen interest the recent protest led by notable Nigerian political figures to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, calling for enhanced electoral transparency and accountability.
Among those reported to have participated in the demonstration are distinguished national leaders, including former Senate President, David Mark; former Governor of Osun State and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso; and former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, alongside a broad coalition of concerned Nigerians.

The Council notes that the peaceful nature of the protest, conducted despite inclement weather, reflects the growing civic consciousness and the deepening desire among Nigerians for credible, transparent, and trustworthy electoral processes as the nation gradually approaches the 2027 general elections.
While affirming the constitutional right of citizens and political stakeholders to lawful assembly and expression, UNIEC Worldwide emphasizes that the stability and progress of Nigeria’s democracy must remain anchored on strong, independent, and credible institutions. In this regard, the role of INEC as the custodian of the electoral process is both sacred and indispensable to national unity and democratic continuity.
Speaking on behalf of the Council, His Lordship, Justice Alpha Ikpeama, Director General of UNIEC Worldwide, stated:
> “This moment in our national life calls not for confrontation, but for constructive engagement. While the concerns expressed by citizens and political actors must be acknowledged, it is equally imperative that such expressions strengthen, rather than diminish, public confidence in our democratic institutions. Electoral credibility is the cornerstone of national peace and legitimacy.”
The Council therefore calls on all stakeholders—political leaders, civil society actors, and the electorate—to adopt a posture of responsibility, restraint, and patriotism. Dialogue, policy-driven reform, and institutional collaboration should take precedence over actions that may heighten political tension or erode public trust.

Furthermore, UNIEC Worldwide urges the leadership of INEC to continue to uphold the highest standards of transparency, impartiality, and professionalism, while remaining open to constructive feedback aimed at strengthening the electoral system.
As a body committed to justice, unity, and equitable nation-building, UNIEC Worldwide reiterates that the path to a stable and prosperous Nigeria lies in collective responsibility, mutual respect among stakeholders, and unwavering adherence to democratic principles.
The Council remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote credible elections, national cohesion, and the enduring integrity of the Nigerian state.

Sen. Nwebonyi Is Setting Development Standards For For Law Makers To Emulate – Okoro Emegha
ABAKALIKI– It was massive showcase of “dividends of democracy” on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, led a high-powered delegation to commission and inspect a vast array of projects across the Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
The tour, which commenced at the APC State Secretariat in Abakaliki, saw the State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha—representing Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru—express profound amazement at the volume of completed and ongoing projects delivered within the Senator’s first two years in office.

A Tour of Transformation
The inspection team traversed several communities, highlighting Senator Nwebonyi’s aggressive focus on infrastructure, education, and rural electrification. Key highlights of the marathon exercise included:
Abakaliki LGA: Commissioning of the Mechanic Site/Motorcycle Spare Parts Road (Obama Road); inspection of 400 solar streetlights** spanning Onuebonyi to Iboko; and the commissioning of Otam Edda Primary School.
Izzi LGA: Commissioning of a housing project for the APC Women Leader at Oferekpe Agbaja and the modern Community Primary School at Mkpuma Ekwaoku, alongside inspections of the Igbuphu and Ekweburu-Edukwu Achi road projects.
Ebonyi LGA: Commissioning of the 2.5km Isuophumini-Obegu Road and a motorized borehole at Ohagelode. The team also inspected the massive 15km Ogbutaruoku/Uloanwu/Ephoenyim Road, featuring critical mini-bridges and culverts.

Due to the exhaustive nature of the tour, which lasted from 8:00 AM until late evening, the inspection of projects in Ohaukwu LGA has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2026.
Stakeholders Hail “The Performance Standard”
Speaking during the tour, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha commended the Senator’s mid-term performance, stating that his achievements have far exceeded expectations.

“I can boldly say we have a competent representative. Leadership is not just about being heard in the Senate chambers; it is about implementation on the ground. The reward for good work is more work. With what he has achieved in less than four years, his continuity is a necessity for our people,” Emegha declared.
He further challenged critics, stating his readiness to defend the Senator’s record against any baseless claims of underperformance.
The Senator’s Philosophy: “Practical Impact”
Addressing journalists and constituents, Senator Nwebonyi emphasized that his legislative approach is anchored on tangible results rather than rhetoric.
“When laws fail to solve the immediate needs of the people, they become beautiful nonsense,” the Senator remarked.
He explained that his empowerment programmes—which include the distribution of 300 motorcycles to farmers and 50 minibuses to youths—are meticulously aligned with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the development vision of the Ebonyi State Government.
The 2027 Momentum
The tour took on significant political weight as key stakeholders endorsed the Senator’s future mandate. Hon. Joseph Nunu, Deputy Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, noted: “Nwebonyi has set a standard that others will struggle to match. This is the era of performance, not empty promises.”
Traditional rulers, including **HRH Eze Sunday Nkwegu Oketa** and **HRH Peter Ukpamazi**, praised the Senator for reviving economic activities through infrastructure and boosting security across rural communities.
As the inspection tour resumes this Thursday, Senator Nwebonyi has assured his constituents that despite the record-breaking start, “the best is yet to come” for Ebonyi North.
