The Forum of 64 Coordinators of Development Centers in Ebonyi State have threatened to sue members of the National Assembly from the State over allegations that Governor David Umahi’s led administration has armed its members with firearms and ammunition to fight supporters of the opposition parties in the State.
The Coordinator of Ikwo South East who is also the Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Mr John Ogodo disclosed this while reading the communique raised by the 64 Coordinators at Abakalki on Monday.
The communiqué noted that the Forum had no business with firearms and ammunition of any kind as allleged by the Federal lawmakers in the recent time.
The Coordinators warned that if the National Assembly members from the state fail to substantiate the allegations, they would be left with no other option than to use a legal action against them for false alarm, misinformation and integrity defamation.
“That the present set of Coordinators of Development Centres in Ebonyi State have no business whatsoever with firearms and ammunition of any kind, even as we make bold to challenge Egwu and his group to make public ‘real’ pictorial, not photoshopped evidences of Coordinators of Development Centres and other youths wielding guns as they claim, as failure to substantiate same will leave Coordinators with no other option than instituting a legal action against them for false alarm, misinforming the public and integrity defamation.
“That as Coordinators of our various Development Centres, who by virtue of our mandates are Chief Security Officers at that level and who play supervisory role on men of EBUBEAGU, we have never distributed guns to these hard working young men of Ebonyi State (members of EBUBEAGU), who are sacrificing alot in partnership with security agencies to ensure that every life and property in the state including that of members of National Assembly who are today raising false alarm, enjoys security in it’s true sense,” the Forum stated.
According to the Forum, it was disheartening to note that at a time the security situation of the Country had deteriorated, elder statesman like Senator Sam Egwu who had governed the State for Eight years and his colleagues in the National Assembly were playing politics with people’s lives instead of joining forces with Governor David Umahi to chart best ways towards fighting insecurity in the State.
“This attitude we see as irresponsible and a show of the fact that there are probably plans by the authors of the said press briefing to cause mayhem in the state which the presence of the Men of EBUBEAGU is now putting a clog in their wheel of progress.
“We are surprised that at a time Senator Egwu should be agitating for and giving way for the youths to take over the affairs of governance he is busy forming groups to tarnish the good image of very young men and women who are mere Coordinators even when he has selfishly served as Commissioner for Education, two term Governor, contested to be President of Nigeria and National Chairman of PDP respectively which both failed and afterwards appointed Minister for Education and now a Senator in his second term and still seriously asking for a third term.
This is a man who left no tangible Achievement for his eight years as governor, his roads got dilapidated and expired before the end of his tenure, the only road that survive his tenure and still standing is Afikpo- Okigwe road the was attracted by Sen. Anyone Pius Anyim, the former Senate president whom Dr. Sam Egwu was the first to create factional party in PDP where we have state and Abuja group just Witch-hunt Pius Anyim, he fraudulently commissions half a kilometer roads and claimed that it is completed, all he enjoyed as governor was built by his predecessor Captain Walter Fegabor, that is Gov. Umahi always invited him (Fegabor) each time there is a major Government function in the state.
Sen. Sam Egwu is intensely jealous of Umahi’s intimidating achievements and success stories. The same Egwu who repeatedly said that “Umahi is a divine gift to Ebonyi state going by his achievements in a short while in office” in our judgement, Sen. Sam Egwu is playing politics with bitterness.
“That we are not unaware of their gimmicks and serious campaign to blackmail the present government in Ebonyi State under the most competent leadership of His Excellency, Engr. (Dr.) David Nweze Umahi who has gone through thick and thin to changing the Ebonyi narrative which has in turn taken away the mockery of asking Ebonyians to “sing the Lord’s song in a strange land.
“The attempt to also slander the person of the Former National Vice Chairman of PDP, South East Zone, His Excellency, Deacon Austin Umahi, is dead on arrival. For the records, Deacon Austin Umahi is a perfect gentleman who discharged his duties with utmost sense of humour, civility,” the Forum said.
The Forum therefore, called urged the general public to disregard the allegations totally as it was one of the plots by the members of the National Assembly from the State to incite crisis and instability in Ebonyi.

The Governor of Ebonyi state during an exco meeting held in old Government House on19th May, in order strengthen and reposition governance of the state announced a minor cabinet reshuffle, in that deliberation Queen Agwu the former chief of staff was deployed to serve as principal secretary of Government House, while the former principal secretary Chief Clement Nweke is to serve as commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, they are both awaiting confirmation from the state house of assembly. The office of the chief of staff is to account, the governor also directed the permanent secretary to receive handover note on his behalf.
While briefing the newsmen, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, the commissioner for information and state orientation said the exco condemned the recent attack on Government facilities where two INEC offices, that of Ezza North and Ebonyi local government areas were burnt down by bandits.
The exco also expressed displeasure at the ugly development and urge security agents to immediately fish out the perpetrators, the governor frowned at the laxity among Government functionaries especially the chairmen of the two local government areas, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters and rural development, the SSA to the governor on local government affairs, he therefore directed the aforementioned stakeholders to be queried for disciplinary action on why they failed in their duties.
The Government has set up a committee that Will carrying out health check-up on Government office holders, this is coming as a result of the death of one of the exco members, four thousand of them will be tested against hypertities and another group of two thousand women will be tested against Cancer this to prevent future occurrence of untimely death.
The Government has issued an executive order 002-2021, the order will serve as a guide on the activities of the town Union leaders and traditional rulers, henceforth, whatever activities the traditional rulers will be having in selection of their leaders will be guided by this executive orders signed today by the governor. Subsequently, the governor also signed another executive order 001-2921on acquisition of the disputed land measuring 37 hecthers between Enyigba and Enyibiciri

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Nweze Umahi has pledged to provide compensation to families of Police Officers who have lost their lives due to activities of unknown gunmen to assuage their difficulties.
Governor Umahi made the pledge while playing host to the new Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone nine, AIG Ene Okon at Exco Chambers, old Government House, Abakaliki.
The Governor While congratulating the new AIG, promised to always support the police to achieve maximum security of lives and property of citizens.
“Let me first congratulate you for this wonderful appointment, let me thank you very much my own Commissioner of Police, this CP is God’s gift and he is very experienced and he is straight forward, he has done extremely well.
“I condemn very seriously the killing of Police Officers and burning of Police Stations, burning of two INEC Offices yesterday in Ezza North and Ebonyi Local Government Areas.
“We played into the hands of the restive Youths because there was a number of agitation they were making at the National level about how people from the South East were treated and when those things were repeated our people got the impression that they were fighting for the interest of the people and that we are not welcome in the project in Nigeria but we Governors of South East believe in one Nigeria where fairness, justice, equity and fair play do take place, we do not want to secede as a people, we want to be treated nicely just like other regions.”
“We will support the police very seriously, we have been supporting them, we will continue to support them, each time their police stations are burnt or when the officers are killed, I feel very bad, and I want to assure the AIG that I will compensate the families of the slain officers”
Earlier, the new AIG of Zone 9, AIG Ene Okon said he was in the State to familiarize with the Governor and Government of Ebonyi State and to cross fertilize ideas on how to tackle security challenges in the Zone.
The new AIG expressed sadness that Ebonyi State and South East Zone that were known for peace and tolerance have suddenly turned violent due to the activities of the unknown gunmen.
“My visit to you, Your Excellency is very timely and it is apt, just yesterday, the Inspector General of Police launched the operation restore peace in the South Eastern part of the Country, therefore I bring you hope and good tidings, historically, the people of the South East are known to be very peaceful people, tolerant people, innovative and Industrial entrepreural people, Ebonyi is not left out in these attributes”
He commended the Governor for the massive transformation of the State with limited resources.
“When I came into Ebonyi many year ago, I saw only one road, if you are coming from Enugu, you see the Ezza road , if you are coming from Afikpo, at that time to come to Abakaliki from Amasiri, it would take you up to five hours to get to Abakaliki, as a DPO, before I could get to Abakaliki, it takes me up to two hours, why was it like that, because there was no roads, very bad but let me confess to you, Your Excellency, when I came here during the election in 2019, I couldn’t know anywhere here, I found a London in Nigeria, it speaks volumes and I don’t need to tell somebody that somebody has done a fantastic work.
“When I was coming from Enugu-Ogwu through Ohaozara, I saw a road construction on concrete that is a modern Technology in road building, I think that is the only one in Nigeria, I have never seen it elsewhere but in Ebonyi, thank you for that marvelous job”
The AIG pledged to partner with the Commissioner of Police to rid the State and zone off criminalities.
“Your Excellency sir, the situation is worrisome, it is a trying time and a challenging time needs a dogged person, I was not posted to zone 9 to sleep, we will not leave anything to chance, I want to assure Your Excellency that I will give Ebonyi a priority in Security”
The Governor also signed executive orders 001 and 002 of 2021 to acquire the 37 hectares disputed land in Enyigba and Enyibichiri and streamline processes for selection of town union leaders and Traditional Rulers in the State.
The Governor also swore in Dr. Richard Nnabo as Senior Special Assistant on Medical services and members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission as well as members of the State Revenue Appeal Commission.

Since the inception of Umahi’s adminstration Barr. Amos Ogbonna the immediate former Coordinator Anuagata Development Centre. Amos’s problem bagan in 2018/2019 when Okposi Okwu people passed vote of no confidence on him as the coordinator at Obiozara for his divide and rule, selfish and autocratic leadership style which culminated in Amos sponsoring a protest with hired thugs that carries placard with various inscriptions indicating solidarity and continuity of his administration even when Gov. Umahi announced that their tenure was over in 2019 and advertised that new people should apply for same position so that others can benefit, Amos greedily and selfishly reapplied. During the screening, Amos was screened out, the Governor told him that information at his disposal suggests that he is in enmity with everyone including : His Royal Highness, women and youths which Mr Dick Okoro (aka World DC ) and other stakeholders echoed in one voice “it is true your Excellency” Which Amos publicly apologized saying “I have repented Your Excellency” amidst all odds, the governor ignored the crowd and public opinion that passed vote of no confidence on Amos and reappointed him to his detriment as coordinator for the second term and asked him to buy 5 cows and make peace with his people which he has not done hitherto.
My point is this:
The misunderstanding between Barr. Amos and the Governor is not communal as Amos makes it to appear but personal. The governor has demonstrated all inclusive governance, equal love for all Ebonyians, Umahi is intensely focused and positive about life and he radiates in all he does, in my opinion I think Umahi has done a lot already and still doing more for the people Okposi which includes Okposi-Amasiri road, Okposi Ugulangwu road Onuogo/Ivuezizo- Court Area road, the two Ata Bridges, Ata Mebiowa Bridge, dualization of Amasiri road. The governor also appoints sons and daughters of of Okposi-Okwu in positions of trust, who has ever done that since the creation of the state. I’m from Okposi Okwu Autonomous community, for that reason I can not deceive my people but tell them the truth which is “Umahi has shown love to Okposi Okwu people” let us resprocate by not distracting him but rather, let us join the entire Igbo nation who has seen him as solution to Nigeria’s leadership problem. My humble opinion.

He has massively boosted educational pursuits that have culminated in the winning of competitive local and international awards. Whereas Ebonyi is now acclaimed the safest state in the country having exterminated crime, it is verifiable that workers are paid duly. Umahi’s economic policies have resulted to the creation of jobs, wealth, and enthronement of skilled and unskilled job opportunities and overall empowerment of youths.
The socio-economic revolution in the state has ensured the enthronement of quality healthcare for the people of Ebonyi rehabilitation of hospitals, building of ultramodern virology center; at FETHA II Abakaliki, inauguration of pharmaceutical drug centres across the state. He renovated and equipped all the General Hospitals in the 13 local government areas of the state with 70 million Naira each. To decongest traffic and enhance transportation, 13 flyover bridges have been constructed at strategic locations; Akanu Ibiam Roundabout, Presco Junction and International Market, Abaomege, Amasiri, Uburu, Nkalagu and so on. Pedestrian crossing was also constructed.
His vision financial acumen, management wizardry, passion for humanitarian services and probity, and the immeasurably comprehensive reengineering of Ebonyi State to record the multifarious accomplishments and revolutionary developments have stood Governor Umahi out amongst his contemporaries.
He has demonstrated more than enough leadership capacity, his immense wisdom and love for human capital development. He has offered practical formula and solutions for good and productive governance. If given the opportunity, he will lead Nigeria out of the present day confusion and improve the dwindling economy. My humble opinion.
Six years ago, during his inaugural address, the innovative, dynamic and revolutionary Governor promised Ebonyians that everything he does, must reflect his covenant with God which He gave to him by Himself, namely: (a) To serve Ebonyi State with the fear of God (b) To prosper Ebonyi State with the word of God (c) To enhance the state economy and make it investors friendly (d) To passionately help the orphans, the widows, the physical challenged… and I will add, to make Ebonyi State number one tourist centre in Nigeria. It is not surprising therefore that Engr. Umahi’s administration shows special compassionate benevolence to indigent members of the society through people oriented welfare scheme of this administration entrusted to a God fearing man of God, Very Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali who passionately and prudently torches many indigent lives. The Religious and Welfare Matter is a sector of this Government where true Christianity is practiced, it is a system of government where the downtrodden and the less privilege have a voice, it Is a place where Governor and his amiable wife demonstrated their immense love and care for the; aged destitute, widows, orphans, less privileged and the indigent members of the society that is true democratization.
Abraham Lincoin, the former American president defined true democracy as a functional and people oriented government that is able to provide for its citizens those amenities individuals cannot afford, which includes: (1) Good motorable roads (2) Electricity (3) pip born (4)food sufficiency (5) adequate security of life and property (6) health care subsidy
Road: Engr. Umahi has done more roads construction and rehabilitation more than all the governors before him. Bridges are constructed to enhance Community-Government relationships; three fly Bridges are constructed to ease/reduce traffic congestions.
Electricity: electricity is extended to the rural areas including street lights in order to ensure steady lights on the street and for industrial usage. Power generating plants are purchased for improved night life, increased productivity, increased man-hour and ensure adequate security at night.
Pip born water; the ministry of water resources is on top of the situation as some streets in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital are already fetching water from the pipes laid by Umahi’s administration. Same gesture is being extended to the rural areas.
Food sufficiency; the Governor has introduced an aggressive drive towards increased rice, cassava, plantain and corn production by enforcing one man one hectare for civil servants and 250 hectares for committees known as Increased Rice Production the resultant effect is the current prices of food stuff in the market. By this time last year, a bushel of rice is sold at thirteen thousand naira (N13,000.00) then this year, a bushel is sold at eight thousand five hundred naira (8,500) by last year also a bid painter of Garri was sold at one thousand two hundred (1,600) this year, the same measure is old at five hundred and fifty naira (550.00). Umahi led government also initiated All-Season farming for increased food sufficiency through Agriculture.
Security; Ebonyi is rated the safest state in Nigeria courtesy of the Chief security officer of the state, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, the SSA to the Governor on Security Hon. Stanley Okoro Emegha is working assiduously with the security agencies ensuring adequate security of lives and properties in the state. With advent of Ebubeagu which Umahi was the first Governor to equip the security outfit with over 40 operational vehicles
Health care; in health care service delivery, the Governor did not only subside but offers free care health services to indigent patients in the hospitals.
The governor of Ebonyi state, Engr David Umahi, who doubles as the chairman of southeast governors forum, has called on leaders across the country to take responsibility and be accountable to the people as part of measures towards ensuring future peace and security of the nation.
Umahi, gave the charge during the presentation of utility vehicles to security agencies in the state in Abakaliki Yesterday, and said that the trending southeastern security outfit with the code name Ebubeagu is not targeted at the proscribed Indegeneous People of Biafra (Ipob) or the Eastern security network (ESN) but a means to improve the security of the state against criminality.
“Let me correct an impression, no criminal is after the governor of Ebonyi state, no Ipob or ESN is after me, because the governor of Ebonyi state has discharged his commitments to the people of Ebonyi state, and what happened two days back was not the activities of ESN or Ipob, it’s pure criminality”. He said.
The governor, noted that the current security challenges in the country requires that leaders at all levels must take responsibility and be accountable to the people in order to save the future generations.
“Our nation is so much at a cross road, I was very shocked when people are announcing dates for 2023 election, it’s very unfortunate Because the nation is quite challenging now, it’s not a matter of Mr President or a matter of the governor,
“all Leaders must take responsibility at this stage because it’s not what we preach in public that is the issue, is when we are confronted with a decision that will secure the future of our children”.
“It’s time to have a rethink, the resources of this nation can build this nation, it is not about efcc icpc, it is about you and God, and that is the problem of this country not what we say on the faces of television, what are we doing with the public resource given to us, this is very important”.
The governor, who noted that the current insecurity has affected every part of the country, urged leaders to engage the people and find solutions rather than playing politics.
“Let’s forget about 2023 and amend fences and let leaders of this country begin to mind thier words, it is not north versus South, people just want to be popular and they are inciting the children, the important thing is that there is a problem, and we have to solve this problem, this is very important” he added.
He called on the state Chapter of the Christian association of Nigerian CAN to work with local government chairmen and identify with the various agitation groups in the state for peaceful negotiations to end uprising, emphasing that government is not out to kill them but to restore them into the society, noting that some of the Agitations are legitimate.
“We can’t continue to ignore the various agitations of all the regions of this country, we have to discuss and mend our ways, we have to begin to build back in love and sincerity, this is my position and this is what I believe, it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks, this is no politics,”. He said.
The governor, stated while briefing Newsmen on the outcome of the state security meeting held at the governor’s office, ochudo centenary city in Abakaliki the state capital,
and directed security agencies to clampdown on criminal actitivites in the state and said all hebalists and native doctors in the state are to register with the commissioner for health as well as the internal security within seven days as part of security measures.
“I have directed all Security Agencies to crack down on all criminal activities in the state and for those who did the killings, the security agencies should bring them to book within 72 hours.”
Recall that unknown gunmen had recently launched attack on security agencies in the state, killing some of thier Personnels as well as setting ablaze of a federal high court in Abakaliki on Tuesday.
Umahi, who attributed national insecurity to bandits, also appealed to locals to stop the attacks on security formations and destroying of goverment properties and imposed curfew in the state.
“We appeal to our people to stop attacking and killing Security men in Ebonyi State, burning down the infrastructure of Government and killing civilians, this is pure criminality, there is no agitation in this criminality and the State Security apparatus will descend on them”.
He directed that the state borders should be closed by 8pm while the movement of motorcycles and people be restricted to 6am and 8pm respectively, adding that all wake keep and other Social activities must also end by 6 pm as defaulters would be made to pay a fine of one million naira.
He warned against circulation of fake news and said it would not be tolerated and directed security agencies to apprehend and prosecute cultprits.
“If we want to solve the Security problem, it is not just for Security men, it is for all of us, a lot of insecurity is caused by fake news, if anyone posts fake news, we will track the person and make him face the law, I have to appeal to leaders to be mindful of their utterances, a lot of the Nation leaders are talking anyhow and war does no one any good” he said.
