When Will Government Hostility And Brutality On Journalists End In Ebonyi?

By Eddie-Johns Guide-post Activist Media

Ebonyi state indigenous media practitioners has called on the information commissioner, Mr Uchenna Orji , to stop harassing journalists discharging their constitutional duty within the state.

Mr. Orji is not just hostile to Ebonyi state indigenous media practitioners and local tabloid, he is also a threat to national media, you can recall his recent attacks on journalists in Ebonyi,  where he disgracefully dragged two journalists Chijioke Agwu of Sun Newspaper and  Pastor Peter Oputu of Vanguard Newspaper out of Government House,  and got them detained for days at Abakaliki police command, for not doing his bidding but being professional and objective in their reportage. It took the intervention the national president of NUJ, Mr. Chris Isiguzo and IZUNWANNE Media Association who interfaced with Ebonyi State Governor before they were released.

On another occasion,  one Mr. Israel Mbam, publisher of People’s Guide Newspaper was also humiliated threatened with the police. Still on government brutality on pressmen operating in Ebonyi one Mr. Charles Otu, the publisher National Conscience Newspaper was badly beaten to coma for not writhing to their vantage.

It is quite disheartening because these are the same journalists they use to their own advantage during 2015  election campaign and the re-election of Gov. Umahi in 2019.

Now they are being classified and tagged inimical, unprofessional, extortionists. Just by rendering the same media services as they did before the first and 2nd election that brought them to power.

My humble advice to journalists, both national and indigenous media practitioners in Ebonyi state is that they should be expediently patient and patiently bear all grunts fashioned against them till the day of reckoning which will one day come, the day when sycophantic appointees will leave office for workers friendly and human oriented government. 2023 transition year is not far fetched.

These are the people Afro juju king, Fala Kuti refers to as “vagabonds in power who shall have their reward in full”.

Thiss, was sequel to the sad event which occurred during a stakeholders meeting with the landlords of the former Abakpa market whose building were demolished as well as marked for demolision by the state government, held at pastoral centre in Abakaliki the state capital.

Guidepost Activist Media Organization gathered that the said commissioner threatened to arrest journalists who attended the event because he did not personally accredit them to be attending government events in the state, to their chagrin, these are the same journalists who has been with the governor and Ebonyi state government since 2015 till date, other information commissioners before the over zealous sycophantic commissioner never had any problem with  journalists.

The Journalists who attended the event have expressed displeasure with the commissioner for misinterpreted intention as well as his public show of shame, by attempting to slap some of thier members, while calling them illegal journalists, is like biting the fingers that fed him.

This is a man who has been suspended  many times by the same government  for abuse of office. Only God will judge him.

He has taken charge of private and state owned media EBBC, to the extent that before a journalist could interview his fellow commissioners or even a trader on the streets, you must seek his permission, this is detrimental to the ethics of professional journalism.

Few months ago, it was Charlse Otu, Chijioke Agwu, Peter Oputu and Israel Ekenè Mbam.

Today it is Nelson Nwifuru the publisher of Fastlink Newspaper and Ejike Ikele the reporter MCL Cable Tv.

Tomorrow it could be you! That is why it  is expedient for NUJ to stop this ugly menace before it Will spread like COVID…

Nigeria Is Sitting On The Keg Of Gun Powder

Being the text of the Communiqué of the 12th National Working Committee (NWC) of the Igbo National Council (INC) worldwide held on Saturday 19th September, 2020 in Awka Anambra State.

The delegates to the 12th National Working Committee (NWC) of the Igbo National Council (INC) met in Awka Anambra State to deliberate on the various pressing issues affecting Nigeria and the Igbo Nation in particular.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of sustaining the self-preservation struggles, policies and programs of the Igbo National Council (INC) through the “Operation Ije Agu” and also to expand and sustain the existing alliance between the INC and the various Self-determination groups in the South-East, South-South, South-West and North-Central Geopolitical zones respectively. The meeting also reaffirmed the need to build and strengthen the synergy among the Igbo Political elites.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Igbo National Council (INC) to maintain and promote Peace, Security and Stability in the Igbo Nation against the unwavering threat to attack and invade many communities in the Igbo Nation Territories by the blood thirsty Jihadist Militants that are already infiltrating and camping in many Igbo Communities and forests.

In view of the above, and among others things, the 12th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting resolved as follows:

  1. That the Igbo National Council (INC) will remain very focus and committed in mobilizing the Igbo Nation for self-defense and will by any means necessary resist any attack or suspected movement or policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria deemed capable of threatening the lives, security or livelihood of the citizens of the Igbo Nation.

In view of the above, INC rejects in its totality the proposed fraudulent Water Resource Bill sponsored by the Federal Government at the National Assembly. We note that this criminal and fraudulent Water Resource Bill is engineered with the ulterior motive to forcefully seize potions of Igbo Nation through fraudulent legislation and then sale the lands and water ways to the rampaging Jihadist Killer Militia in order to encircle the Igbo Nation and then commence another genocide / brutal annihilation attacks against the Igbo Race in Nigeria. We insist that the proposed Water Resource Bill is undemocratic and unacceptable by Nigerians.

  1. The meeting reiterated the commitment of the Igbo National Council (INC) to continue the community mobilization of the Igbo Race to defend the Igbo Nation against hostile Jihadist Killer Militants that are now clandestinely trooping into the territories of the Igbo Nation without checks.

On the foregoing, we urge all community vigilantes to intensify their surveillance activities and continuously be at alert and scrutinize any suspected movement in their communities..

  1. Finally, INC rejects in its totality, the present cosmetic and fruitless excise embarked by this National Assembly in the name of Constitution Amendment. We urge the President Buhari led administration to be bold enough to convene a full blown National / Constitutional Conference where Nigerians will discuss the way forward for Nigeria and come out with a true Confederal Constitution for Nigeria.

Signed

Igbo’s National Council: What Every Leader Must Know

By prince solomon okorie-Guidepost News

ARE YOU A LEADER ?

A leader is a servant to all. If you don’t have a heart to serve others without looking for reward, you are not a leader

If you can’t withstand criticism and you can’t withstand and survive the havoc of hate speech, you are not a leader .

If you don’t have the power of forgiving and forgetting, you are not a leader.

If you stop doing good because nobody recognizes your kind gesture, you are not a leader

If you see your followers making mistakes, but you keep quiet saying, “If they don’t call me for advice, I will allow them learn by experience.” Your attitude depicts that you are not a leader

Do you have the Pull them Down syndrome? When you see someone doing better than you, what do you do, encourage or pull them down?

A genuine leader should not desire the downfall of his followers who are better than him.

If you close doors for your subordinates because you are afraid they will be far better than you, you are not a leader.

If you don’t produce your kind. You are the only champion doing great and mighty things, you are not a leader.
Never forget that every good leader must have a better successor.

As a leader, you must feed on knowledge. Don’t be stagnant, improve yourself so you can make impact.

As a leader, be a ladder for others to climb to the top. Don’t pull them down. Your desire should be to make your followers better than yourself.

Be humble, let them learn from your mistakes. Do not watch them grope in darkness when you can guide them as a light.

A leader should be compassionate. How can you be comfortable when your followers are living in abject poverty?

A leader should have the heart of a father. A father leads and ensures his family is safe. A good leader should provide for his own people sacrificially without using them for his personal agenda

A leader should have the heart of a mother. When the child is sick, the mother runs helter skelter to ensure his quick recovery.

Why do you pretend you don’t know your followers are suffering?

A leader should not allow evil people to make him wicked. No matter how good you are, some people will not like you.

A leader should not allow evil to prevail in the land because of his personal interest.

Do what is right for conscience sake and leave the rest.

A leader should not be partial in judgement. We need leaders who can be fair in judgement.

Be a voice to the voiceless in the society without fear nor favour. Treat the rich and the poor alike with love and kindness.

Do you have the loving heart of a leader?

You are probably wondering this article is meant for our leaders over there.

You are wrong, It is meant for you. I mean you that is reading it now.

You are a leader in your own sphere of influence

You wonder, “Really, I don’t think so. I am just a follower.”

You are far from the truth. Believe it or not, you are a leader.

You might be under training but know that you are a leader all the same.

In your business, you are a leader. Start making impact from there.

Remember charity begins at home.

In your business, be a great leader.

Wherever you are placed to watch over people, please be a good leader.

Don’t just be a leader, be a great one.

Being a leader is a privilege. Don’t misuse it, neither should you take undue advantage of your subordinates.

You are a leader to nurture great minds into fulfilling their destiny.

Remember what is worth doing at all is worth doing well.

I see the spirit of leadership in you awakening into limelight. If you call yourself a leader, lead well.
